Ny Urban Terror starter
Så har jeg lagt den nye version af Urban Terror starteren op til download. Du skal bruge dette program til at starte Urban Terror fra serverlisten. Det er samme program som man skal bruge for at starte Urban Terror fra servers.urbanterror.net.

Alle maps slettet!!
Da der kommer en ny version af Urban terror i dag kl 2300.

Har vi slettet alle de gamel maps da det er en helt ny version med nye og forbedret maps, men når der kommer nye maps så vil de komme på igen.

Urban Terror 3. Game On!
So far everything is looking good for the release of Urban Terror 3 on Saturday, August 9. We are putting the finishing touches on the release, including building the pak file, and testing it in order to make sure we do not run into problems like we have in the past (think 2.6). So far, the development team is quite excited to get this version of Urban Terror released.

We have begun sending out e-mails and asking FTPs and server admins to join us in channels dedicated to receiving the release early. If you have not received an e-mail, then chances are you were not selected. The response has been amazing, more than 300 e-mails have come in from people wanting to either upgrade or host the files for the Urban Terror 3 release. Obviously we cannot accomedate everyone, but will make our best attempts to get many FTPs worldwide.

Lastly, the Urban Radio release party might be in jeopardy. I really will not know until Friday. At that time we will make the determination as to the status of the show which is scheduled to take place hours before the official release .

As mentioned a few months ago, Silicon Ice Development will be in attendance at Quakecon 2003 in Dallas, Texas at the Adams Mark, August 15-17. In attendance this year, Bladekiller, RabidCow, Dragonne, QueenBee, Miles and Oswald. If last year was any indication of the fun and enjoyment we had, this year will definitely be just as enjoyable.

Oswald offentliggjorde i løbet af aftenens Urban Radio, at Urban Terror Beta 3.0 bliver frigivet Lørdag d. 9. august 2003 kl. 23.00 CET
Der vil naturligvis være release party i #urbanterror på ETG.

.def file - Urban Terror Beta 3
Silicon Ice Development has been working on the latest version of Urban Terror that is Beta 3. This new version will introduce some new features to the mod that gamers and level designers have been looking forward to. But for this update, we are more interested in what it is going to provide the level designers.
The release of the entities definition file marks the first chance for the level designers to get a look at some of the new features that will be available in the upcoming release. Some of the new features for levels the ability to make levels dynamic depending on game type, removing portions of the level for better game flow or increasing the size of the level. The entities func_wall and func_rotating_door make this possible. Also several entities have had a game type key added to use them when necessary or remove them when not needed (func_pendulum and target_speaker). There are also some game type specific enhancements.

Capture the Flag has some new features that allow the use of spawn rooms that cannot be camped or entered by the opposing team. In addition, we've added an entity to prevent the use of those spawn rooms as friendly flag carrier camping spots, and ensure that an enemy never survives the entrance into an enemy spawn. Normal Quake 3 func_doors have been allowed to only let a specific team trigger them, and a properly set trigger_multiple on the inside of the spawn room only will help keep players that leave the spawns from coming back in. On the slight chance that an enemy gets into your spawn room, a totally new entity called, Mr. Sentry (a self-targeting chaingun) will quickly make mince-meat of the offending player. Mr. Sentry will also help the other team, and prevent cheesing by friendly flag carriers, as it will also own anyone entering a spawn room with a flag. With a required nodrop brush in the spawn rooms, flags return immediately keeping the game going. Mr. Sentry can also be used in any game type. a little experimentation should turn up some neat uses from the community of imaginative thinkers we have.

Bomb mode has given an Urban Terror entity a new twist. Those func_breakables are now for more than just windows. You can now create breakable things the can only be destroyed by the bomb blast. Forget setting health values for this, just pick a level for the size of the secondary explosions from the breakable, and a type of breakable, and watch it go BOOM when the bomb explodes. Have fun making complete areas get destroyed when the bomb goes off! Another enhancement to func_breakable is new types. Metal and stone can now be broken, and even made breakable only by high explosive grenades and the HK69, or even as specific as the HK69 only! Wood also has the ability to become VERY strong in the same way.

In all, Urban Terror Beta 3 brings more functionality for the level designer to include in their level, than ever before. Soon after the Beta 3 release, Dragonne be creating a few simple tutorials for spawn rooms and bomb breakables, to make everyone's life a little easier when creating them. I hope everyone enjoys what we've done for the mapping scene for Urban Terror in this release. I'm looking forward to see what the community comes up with!

To download the new urbanterror.def file, right click and 'Save As' this file. Thanks to all those on SID who have finally made this new .def file happen for the upcoming release of Urban Terror. You know, this means the next release is not far behind...

Oswald's Plan Update - What's Coming Up
Damn, it's been nearly three months since my last update. Where did the time go? Guess that doesn't matter, but what does matter is the progress of Urban Terror 3. While there is still not a release date, the fine tuning has begun! It would also mean we are a step closer to announcing a release date and organizing our release party. Currently, we are testing version 36a, but that will probably change within a day or so, as the coders continue to knock out problems on a daily basis. Just awesome to see! I must also give props to Miles and Bladekiller, the screenshots on the web site do not accurately portray the details of the heads and skins. Just wait and see the new shots we have for you.

Heading to a LAN in July in Colorado Springs. The event is called EverLAN. I was invited last year by Everman, the organizer of the event. In the process I also met HornetOSX, Wycked, Tommy and Andrew (Everman) of GeekWearZ. Of course it was the Winter event and the first snow in Springs, just my damn luck. I am looking forward to giving a talk on mods and hanging out with all the gamers.

Game Mode: Bomb/Defuse
En af de mest forventet features til Urban Terror 3.0 er implementationen af Bomb/Defuse game mode. Denne er en feature som har været diskuteret helt tilbage fra beta 2.0. Uheldigvis havde vi på daværende tidspunkt ikke ressourcerne der understøttede dette game mode.

Som andre spil der feature en bomb mode, vil de basiske regler i Urban Terror versionen være nogenlunde ens. Det røde hold vil altid være det angribende hold med bomben, mens det blå hold vil prøve at forhindre det røde hold i at fuldføre deres mission.

Når runden begynder vil bomben spawne hos en random rød spiller. Afhængig af om af om de er i stand til at fuldføre deres mission vil de beholde bomben. Hvis de dør eller giver bomben videre til en anden Team mate, vil de starte med den eller en anden spilelr vil blive udvalgt. På denne måde hvis et hold har udpeget en speciel bombe bærer, er de kun nødt til at videregive bomben i spawn, hvis deres bærer ikke nåede at plante bomben i den tidligere runde. Hvis bomb mode bliver spillet uden for ”match mode” så vil holdene automatisk skifte (swap) sider når midtpunktet for map tiden nås.



Hver level vil have 2 steder at plante bomben (bombe sted A & B), markeret med et rødt pulserende bulls eye på jorden. Når bombe bæreren nærmer sig sit mål er vedkommende nødt til at vælge bomben fra sit inventory og bevæge sig nær det markeret sted, dernæst trykke på deres FIRE knap for at armere bamben. Så snart bomben er armeret, bliver der automatisk sendt en besked på skærmen med en advarsel til de andre spiller om at bomben er placeret.

Bomben vil eksploderer efter 45 sekunder, hvis den ikke når at blive neutraliseret af det blå hold. Så snart defensive spillere nærmer sig bomben vil det tage dem 15 sekunder ud af de 45 at desarmere bomben og afværge eksplosionen. Men bomben bliver desarmeret vil en desarmerings ”bar” visse spillerens fremskridt, mens tonerne fra bømben ændre sig mens den kommer tættere på detonationen, fulgt af en ”onscreen” nedtælling fra 3 sekunder af. Begge disse tider er rekommanderet som default af ”www.silicon-ice.com”, men de kan ændres af en server admin gennem em server cvar.



Bomb mode feature en helt ny code og animationer, inkluderet en massiv eksplosion, ild og en shock bølge effekt, hvis bomben detonerer. Bombe stedet er også lokaliseret på mini kortet som røde pulserende markører. Mange af de nuværende Urban Terror maps er blevet opdateret for at tillade denne spille mode. Nogle af de maps der vil understøtte denne nye spille mode er, Village2, Revolution, Sanctuary, Crenshaw og Druglord3. Der er også sket opdateringer med maps som Abbey og Casa så du kan spille Bomb/Defuse.
