2.6 Update: New Point!
|
Bitter sweet news over the course of the last few weeks. With the introduction of a nasty, little hack that had the community up in arms recently, that news took a back seat based on the announcement today from Robert Duffy of id Software. "We will be releasing a new point release in the relatively near future which includes a handful of fixes and updates and also includes full Punk Buster integration to combat cheating. No firm date on when this will be out... said Duffy in his .plan update. This is excellent news from Duffy and is Software, as SID is looking forward to the enhancements made to Quake 3, which should solve some of the problems that have begun to plague the community. There are no losers with a new point release. Well, yeah there is...
Currently, there are many unsure about what these means to the impending release of Beta 2.6. As we stated in previous news, we had planned on releasing Beta 2.6 before heading to Mesquite, Texas and QuakeCon 2002. Currently Beta 2.6 is being tested daily by the development team and those gamers who constitute the Quality Assurance Team. While it is not complete, it is close, but with this announcement, its possible this could delay are pre-QuakeCon release. We are still discussing our options. One thing you can be sure of, we will not release 2.6 while at QuakeCon, as we do not have the resources in place, with a majority of the team attending the event.
Hopefully we will have some more news to pass along, once we have some more time to look into what the new point release is going to include and what this means for mods. Right now, you know as much as we do when it coms to the point release, based on the news and reports seen on the gaming web sites.
